Arkansas' Waoka advance to meet Connecticut band Protocol in Favorite Duo/Band Song Final

Randy Covey, founding member of Waoka, has been playing and singing for over 30 years, starting in folk duos and acoustic sets. Influences include Neil Young, Ben Harper, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Robert Plant, and the Jayhawks. He met his wife Allyson in a local coffee house playing music and so it began. On his myspace page he also says he is a Public School Teacher, Singer songwriter, Artist, Woodworker,Actor, Archer, Knife maker, and Draftsman, among other talents and professions.

Their fun folk song 'Baby Steps' has managed to make it through the past two weeks of competition and advance to the final this week against Protocol.

Waoka 'Baby Steps'

Protocol is a well-rounded rock band from Connecticut. Joe (vocals, guitar, bass) and Tyler (guitar), began writing songs together in 2003. Ryan Laney soon joined on keyboard and mandolin, followed by Matt on bass and Emily on drums (and occasionally bass). Their good friend Nick occasionally plays with the band on baritone sax and vocals.

Throughout their high school careers, Protocol was mainly a recording group, performing a few times at Toquet Hall in Westport, CT, and in their high school's talent show. By the summer of 2007 (the graduating year of the majority of the band's members) Protocol had completed Faceless, their first full album, and by the summer of 2009 they finished work on their second, Verbatim, recording only during college breaks.

Protocol's music reflects its members' backgrounds in and love of both rock and classical music. When asked about their influences, they usually list Aerosmith, The Beatles, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, and Dispatch.

Protocol has a third album in the works and Joe and Ryan Laney are working on a musical about their experiences in high school as well.

Acoustic Singer/Songwriter Tim Current and R&B Artist Creative 1 meet in Male Solo Artist Final

Tim Current,singer/songwriter, joined forces with local vancouver washington band (The Martindales) in 2003 to record his first 12 song cd due to be finished in the spring of 2004. They currently have a large library of songs still yet to be recorded in the country/rock/pop/ballad genre. Easy listening with an edge, its a must hear for fans of The Eagles to Blue Rodeo and everything in between! Here's what writer Jim Cooper had to say about Tim's new album: Why did Tim call this recording Convergence? Perhaps it’s because the songs converge lyrically and musically into radio-friendly numbers that will appeal to listeners who disdain the simplicity of most pop music. And what a convergence it is. Backed by the imitable Martindales, a band whose versatility and rock and roll credentials provide the perfect accompaniment to the rich material, Tim Current’s superb songwriting and vocals immediately capture the ear. From the opening chords of “Living a Lie” to the subtle harmonies that close “Till the End of Time,” you can practically hear the enthusiasm. Add Kevin Nettleingham’s skillful production to the mix, and the result is an album that will easily withstand the test of time, sounding as fresh twenty years from now as it does today. Although most of Tim’s songs focus on the enduring topic of love and relationships, this album is not simply a collection of boy meets girl/boy loses girl songs. Relationships are never that simple; even the best ones are messy, complicated, and nuanced. Tim’s music reflects that reality brilliantly. Who can’t relate to the cocktail of loss, bitterness and resignation served in “Living a Lie” or to Tim’s homage to love’s transformative power, “You Set Me Free?” And when, in the hard rocking “She Likes the Way,” Tim sings “She loves it when I tell her she’s so fine / I love it when she slips her little hand in mine,” who doesn’t agree that small gestures create strong bonds? In one of the album’s strongest cuts, “Malibu,” Tim demonstrates the hollowness of luxury without love when he croons “It’s gonna be 85 again and there’s not a cloud in sight / The major train wreck of the day is if the PH level’s right.” The fact is Tim understands human nature, and his ability to express that understanding in words and music bodes well for the discriminating listener. If you’re looking for authenticity and sophistication that transcends typical pop formulas, then you’ve come to the right place.

US vs UK hip hop in the Music Video Final - Sapient and The Disabilists feat Foreign Beggars Advance

Sapient 'She Doesn't Love Me' Portland, Oregon.

Sapient, a rare breed of emcee, is blessed with gifts of discernment and rhythm, has been a loyal member of sandpeeps since the early developemental stages. He lives in a basement underground, where he sacrifices old records to the sample god. Formerly just a graf writer, he never could be fulfilled with only the visual arts, so with the help of a musical inclination, things fell into place. In 2000 when he first focused his writing skills to hiphop, he had no colleagues. This struggle, and uncanny stamina lead to his amazing beat-making ability, and with no one to learn from he developed a very original understanding of rhyme schemes and precision.

After releasing a multitude of self-made albums and destroying countless stages in the northwest, Sapient joined the super-crew Sandpeople. They released their debut lp (Points of View), which was followed by Sapient’s debut solo lp (Dry Puddles) and Graise Period (produced by Elliot B.). In 2005, Sandpeople released their their second lp (All in Vain). It was not long after that Sapient and Ethic formed the torrential duo named Debaser. “Crown Control”, Debaser’s debut album, was released in June 2006, which was a portfolio of Sapient and Ethic as emcees, but also of Sapient’s ability as a producer. Debaser also released an Australian exclusive 12” w/ Grayskul, and scribble jam ‘04 champ: iLLmacuLate.
In this day and age where every emcee thinks they can sing, Sapient is a true renaissance man of words and melodies, playing guitar, piano, bass, drums and whatever the fuck else he feels like. He is currently grinding on two solo projects as well as Sandpeople 3.

This is the first of three music videos coming out for the "Famine Friends" campaign. Shot all in one day, Sapient describes Mother Earth as being a masochist and enjoying the abuse we put her through. Senadee London, United Kingdom

Senadee is the pseudonym of singer and musician Sena Verdi, who was born in Iran two years after that country's revolution. His family moved to the UK soon after, and Verdi drew inspiration from "bands with big ideas" such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Radiohead and U2.

Senadee's song in this contest, 'My Fault' caught the attention of up and coming producer Ben Gold (Son of veteran DJ and Dance music Pioneer Graham Gold). Gold used a sample of the song to produce what was to become one of the biggest underground Dance tunes of 2008, 'Say The Words'. The track was signed to Flux Delux, a sub-label of Recoverworld Records, one of the most famous Indie dance labels in the world. The song was showcased by Armin van Buuren and received heavy rotation on Radio One by dance DJ's Judge Jules and Dave Pearce.

The music video for My Fault was Produced & Directed by the up and coming Director Shane Ward, this video was commissioned by the artist upon seeing some of Shane's previous short film work - specifically the intense, visceral "Rupture". The artist is releasing his debut solo single "My Fault" very soon and the label required him to provide a video (after the last people who were requested to make a video for this song completely screwed it up). Sadly the budget was tiny, and there was only one day to shoot it, but all the money went in front of the camera - in this case a RED one.
