Interview with The First Place

MAS: Congratulations to ‘The First Place’ for your first place win in the Best Song- Duo or Band March competition! What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?

TFP: Well, I’m a female, first of all, and lead singers are predominantly male, so that’s something. Haha. I think the biggest difference is that I’m trying to send a message to the world that many people find convenient to ignore. I also am outspoken about issues, especially animal cruelty, and make it a part of what I do as a musician. When people are aware of what is going on around them, it creates the opportunity for change, and I think we’re long overdue for some change.

MAS: Who do you get inspiration from or wish to emulate in music and life?

TFP: My surroundings are a significant inspiration for me. Things that happen to me or around me inspire me to write. People who make me happy, angry, sad, etc. also inspire me to make music, but sometimes people don’t like when I write songs about them, because it usually means I’m mad at them, haha.

MAS: Who were your favorite musicians as a child? What was your first album or concert?

TFP: As a child, I loved Green Day, Silverchair, Bush, Smashing Pumpkins, No Doubt; the list goes on (including Hanson, I won’t lie. I was a teenage girl, ya know?!). My first album and concert is in no way symbolic of my musical taste though! My first concert (thanks to my mom) was Michael Bolton (I kid you not) and my first album was Soul 4 Real – Candy Rain (I think that was the name of the album). I still have my Dookie and Frogstomp tapes though!
