Massachusetts metal band Widow Sunday wins the Music Video title for their dark stop-motion animated 'The Strings of Clarity' clip.
MAS: First off congrats on your win for Best Music Video. Tell us how it feels to have won. Are you happy, surprised, relieved?
WS: We're incredibly happy and thankful to all of our awesome fans who supported us. So many people loving what we're doing and going out of their way to help us out is more than we could ever ask for.
MAS: Is there an interesting story behind your band’s name?
WS: "Widow Sunday" was the nickname of Madame Dimanche, a 19th century Parisian woman who grew an 8-inch bone horn from the center of her forehead in her late 70's. A wax cast of the abnormality can be found in the Mutter Medical Museum.
MAS: That is a cool story and a true one as well. Tell us how you got started as a band and how everyone became a part of it.
WS: In late 2007, our original lineup formed from the ashes of two long-standing Massachusetts metal bands. More of a side-project initially, we really kicked into gear after the departure of our original singer and the addition of our current vocalist Jacob Falconer. After months of shows all over the Northeast and another lineup change, the band solidified with the addition of lead guitarist Sean Duffy and we've been going full force ever since.
MAS: What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?
WS: We're not really out to be the next revolution in heavy music; we just play what we love and feels is genuine. However, we may be somewhat set apart by our live performance and overall mentality. We love to play shows, and don't hide the fact that we're incredibly happy to be performing our art in front of an audience. Our music is brutal and we take ourselves seriously, but none of us are tough guys so we aren't going to pretend to be scary. We're here to party and anyone who comes to see us had better be too, because we're going to make you.
